Nintendo Mobile

Nintendo has been facing a lot of pressure to go mobile and they’re starting to show interest in meeting halfway and having apps that compliment their home and handheld systems. They've created mobile web versions of Miiverse and Mario Kart TV and that's a step in the right direction. The following is a list of app ideas that could help bring Nintendo to the mobile app forefront.

Miiverse

Miiverse has grown into a thriving community with folks of all ages from all over. As long as Nintendo is the only thing you want to talk about it's a haven. I would love a dedicated app on my phone that made use of the touchscreen for drawn posts.

Animal Crossing

There's an abundance of things to do in Animal Crossing and only so much time in the day. It can be hard to keep up with events and holidays, dates and to-dos. It'd be nice if you had an app counterpart on your phone that syncs up with your game and acts as a sort of PDA.

The app would keep you up to date on upcoming events and holidays, remind you that you still have to take that package to Pudge for Buck, remind you that you promised Pierce you'd visit later, give you the status of your latest Public Works Project and so on. Maybe you can write and receive letters from your phone. It's a way to keep you in the game. There's always something happening when you're not on and it would be cool to see that part of the experience.

Club Nintendo

To be honest the Club Nintendo site doesn't run all that smoothly so if they could get the service working as an app it would be much appreciated. The ability to register games and take surveys on the go meaning you could have it all done before you even got the game home. Some features may include reminders being sent so you never miss a survey opportunity. Registering a game by QR code would be a lot more convenient than enter the codes themselves.

Mario Kart TV

I'm not sure what an app could do for Mario Kart TV besides making the experience run smoothly.  Also having an app just might raise that much more awareness. So many apps are really just advertisements anyways.

eShop

Nintendo made tremendous leaps and bounds stepping over from the Wii Shop Channel and DSi Ware over to the eShop, but I will say I miss the Wii Shop Channel music. As of right now Nintendo just started allowing you to purchase games on the eShop from their website. Hopefully soon they'll have a full web version of their online store and better yet an eShop app. Why wouldn't they want to make it so easy to give them money? You could be talking about a game with your friends and look it up, buy it and have it downloaded by the time you get home.

amiibo

Nintendo's next big thing maybe.  An app that worked with NFC enabled mobile devices would help add value to the amiibos themselves simply by creating  something else you can do with them.  You could see the type of info that's stored on them and maybe see what software they're compatible with.

Nintendo Network

A lot of the following I originally viewed as individual apps, but decided to group them together here. The Nintendo Network app would allow you to view your account and systems, see what your friends are playing, view system activities and remotely access parental controls.

Save Data Backup

A really cool and potentially useful app like this would wirelessly backup your saved game data wirelessly to your phone so you always have it available. Who knows, maybe you just got to the final boss during lunch break and a lot could go wrong between now and the time you get home. I'd hate to lose that data and have to start all over again.

So what are your thoughts? Should Nintendo invest resources into creating a mobile counterpart? Could it hurt? What are your ideas on how they can leverage the mobile market to their advantage?
